As the NFL and NCAAF enter the final stretch, NCAAB is once again ready for some heart pounding action as it opened up this past weekend. This weekend was a huge one in terms of sports; starting with the defending NCAAB champions, UCONN, playing their first game of the new season. The rest of the first weekend of college basketball was fairly silent except for a few scares, here and there. Next, there were many great college football games that was topped off with #5 Alabama beating #1 Mississippi St. in Tuscaloosa and Melvin Gordon breaking the FBS rushing record with Wisconsin. Then, in the NFL, Week 11 was headlined by SHAUN HILL and ST.LOUIS as they beat Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Lastly, a new face emerged in the Patriots-Colts game who ran for 199 yards with 4 touchdowns!

The defending Men’s Basketball National Champions, UCONN, started the new season on a some-what successful note with a 13 point win over Bryant (66-53). Bryant came out of the gate strong and at the end of the first half had a 6 point lead against the Huskies. In the second half, however, the defending champs shut Bryant down, limiting them to just 19 total points; giving Ryan Boatright and the Huskies a positive end to opening night. This was just the same for the number one team in the nation, Kentucky, who faced Buffalo and actually fell behind by half but were then able to roll the rest of the night and defeat Buffalo by a score of 71-55. The rest of the Top 25 seemed to be on for an undefeated weekend until #25 Harvard faced Holy Cross and were surprisingly upset by a score of 58-57. Other than this upset, the rest of opening weekend from NCAAB went as smooth as we should have imagined as no big matchups took place.

On Saturday there where many interesting games in college football, such as #5 Alabama beating #1 Mississippi St. in a close game that ended up at a tight score of 25-20. Next, #14 Wisconsin faced #21 Nebraska where Wisconsin RB, Melvin Gordon, ran for 408 yards in 3 quarters of play! This outstanding rushing performance gave Melvin the record for most rushing yards in a game in FBS History and also gave Wisconsin the 59-24 win over the Cornhuskers.  Also, #3 Florida State won by 4 points, 30-26, against Miami, which was most definitely too close for Jameis Winston. Then the number four ranked TCU Horned Frogs won by a tight margin verses Kansas, 34-30. Finally, #8 Ohio St beat the #25 ranked Golden Gophers as they race to try and secure one of the final playoff spots.

With only 6 weeks left in the NFL, every game matters. The Broncos were surprisingly not able to get a win from the NOW 4-6 St. Louis Rams. The Bronco’s defense could not stop Shaun Hill as he threw for 220 yards and Tre Mason who ran for another 113. Even with Peyton Manning, who threw for 389 yards, the Broncos were still only able to manage one touchdown as they simply could not get the running game going. The Philadelphia Eagles had a rough week, as well, as they got trampled by Green Bay, with Aaron Rogers who threw for 341 yards and 3 TD. Lastly, possibly the biggest game of the week, the Patriots pounded the Colts defense for 42 points as Brady threw for 257 yards but importantly, Jonas Gray ran for 199 yards and 4 touchdowns! With this win, the Patriots continue their winning ways and increase their win streak to 6 games.

This past weekend was greatly headlined by the NFL and College Football as they are entering their final stretch. As college basketball has once again begun this year, only ONE Top 25 team lost even though some teams were given a scare during some point in their game. Next, the NBA and NHL were basically on mute the entire weekend as they have just begun just a few weeks ago and nothing much is at stakes yet. Lastly, the MLB was headlined by rumors and nothing significantly important was yet announced.
